Polar Explorers

Olsen was a crew member and cook on the third Fram Expedition to the Antarctic.

Karenius Olsen was born in 1890, and was only 20 years old when he left with the Fram.
When Adolf Lindstrøm became cook at Framheim on the ice, assisting the eight skiers, Olsen became the cook on board the Fram, for the Southern Ocean voyage. According to Roald Amundsen, his work was performed in a seldom conscientious and competent way. If only we could have many of his kind, he states in his book (Amundsen, 1912, s. 315).
If you know anything more about Karenius Olsen we would like to hear from you.

"Victory awaits him, who has everything in order - luck we call it.  Defeat is definitely due for him, who has neglected to take the necessary precautions - bad luck we call it"

Roald Amundsen
