Polar Explorers

karl-hansen.pngKarl Hansen (?? - ??)

Hansen was hired as mate early in May 1923 before the Maud left Seattle on the last phase of the expedition 1923-25 under Oscar Wisting's command. He functioned also as general worker and hunter. Together with Olonkin and Malmgren he arrived back in Norway 4 November by ship from USA after the Maud expedition was over.

Hansen applied to join Amundsen's expedition with the airship Norge, but there was no place for him.

"Victory awaits him, who has everything in order - luck we call it.  Defeat is definitely due for him, who has neglected to take the necessary precautions - bad luck we call it"

Roald Amundsen
