Carl Martin Hansen (1891-1968)

Carl Martin Hansen, a native to Bodø, went to sea at 15, and was a skipper at 17. Hansen was hired as mate early in May 1923 before the Maud left Seattle on the last phase of the expedition 1923-25 under Oscar Wisting's command.

He functioned also as general worker and hunter. Together with Olonkin and Malmgren he arrived back in Norway 4 November by ship from USA after the Maud expedition was over.

Hansen applied to join Roald Amundsen's expedition with the airship Norge, but there was no place for him.

He emigrated to the United States in 1926, moved to Seattle, and worked as Master on a number of fishing and fur-trading vessels.
