The Fram Museum in association with the Norwegian Polar Institute present a brand new exhibition on the past, present and future of Norwegian Antarctic presence and research at Olav V square by the city hall in Oslo.

Half of the exhibition showcases Norway’s historical expeditions to Antarctica from 1891 to the 1960s, while the other half focuses on contemporary Norwegian research and presence in Antarctica.

The exhibition is presented on the occasion of the SCAR Open Science Conference 2026 which is being held in Oslo from August 8 to 19.

The SCAR Open Science Conference is where the Antarctic research community comes together for an exciting programme of talks, workshops, and social events that celebrate a shared passion for understanding the Antarctic region.

The scientific program is interdisciplinary and covers, among other fields, the physical sciences, geosciences, life sciences, humanities, and social sciences, as well as cross-cutting themes related to climate, ecosystems, and the governance of Antarctica.
