Description
Bordering the Arctic Ocean, both Norway and Russia view the Arctic as a natural area for action and interaction. Centuries of peaceful relations between Norway and Russia along their common border in the North, have laid a solid foundation for our cooperation in the Arctic.
Russia and Norway were pioneers in polar science and exploration. During a number of important historical expeditions, Norwegians and Russians provided each other with all possible assistance. This exhibition tells the stories of expeditions, but also about the present cooperation between our countries in the polar regions. Today our countries cooperate across the border in a broad range of fields. Norway and Russia also cooperate closely at the international level, such as within the Arctic Council, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
We believe that this bokk will both refresh well-known knowledge and reveal new facts about our common polar history, and we hope that visitors will be inspired to dig deeper into the heroic and adventurous endeavours of our polar explorers. Most importantly, perhaps, the exhibition aims to convey the value of collaboration and fellowship when venturing into the unknown. These values should guide our cooperation in the Polar regions today as well.
