Nansen Photographs to Germany

Our exhibition The Nansen Photographs has opened in Germany at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin where it can be seen in its German translation Reise ans Ende der Welt. There is also a new German translation of the book, available here.

The “race” to the South Pole

Today we commemorate Roald Amundsen’s achievement of being first to the South Pole and also remember the tragic fate that befell Robert Falcon Scott and his men. This animated video gives a great stage by stage overview of the two expeditions’ struggle towards the farthest south in the world and back. Animation by Sarner.

World Antarctica day, December 1st

The World Antarctica day takes place every year and celebrates Antarctica and the day when the Antarctic Treaty was signed in 1959. Here are some photos of Carsten Borchgrevink’s hut at Cape Adare, built in 1899, -the oldest staning structure in Antarctica.

The 2022 Amundsen Memorial Lectures

were held this weekend and it was a great success! 130 guest enjoyed two days of polar themed lectures, a movie, a field trip and an 8-course dinner, recreating the 1906 dinner held in Roald Amundsen’s honor after his return from having conquered the Northwest Passage.
