The Fram Committee and the staff of the Fram Museum are all saddened by the news of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway’s death.
Since his reign started in 1991, His Majesty has been a great supporter of the museum. He has over the years opened all the current permanent exhibitions in the museum and laid the foundation stone for the Gjøa Building on 14 December 2011 – the 100th anniversary of Roald Amundsen’s arrival to the South Pole.
In May last year, His Majesty opened the 100th anniversary exhibition on Amundsen’s flight towards the North Pole and was the first to ride in the new 4D North Pole flight simulator.
15 of his own sailing boats have been named Fram. The first, Fram I, was a gift from his grandfather King Haakon VII in 1948. In Fram X in 1987, he became world champion in the one-ton class.
We are proud to have hosted their majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja during several state visits of foreign dignitaries to Norway, lastly during the Dutch king and queen’s visit to Norway in 2021.
